Veterinary Surgeon – Brighton & Hove | £51,000–£68,000
Location: Brighton & Hove
Salary: £51,000–£68,000 DOE + overtime and bonuses
Hours: Full-time or part-time
Practice: Independent
OOH: None
My independent client on the Brighton coast is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon to join their growing team on a permanent basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a confident GP vet looking to join one of the increasingly rare genuinely independent practices in the area, with plenty of clinical autonomy, excellent continuity of care and a genuine focus on work-life balance.
Being based on the coast, you can even stroll down to the beach during your lunch break – which the practice actively insists you take!
The Role
The practice is looking for a true generalist GP vet who enjoys building lasting relationships with clients and patients.
You will be predominantly based within their village clinic, taking sole charge and managing a varied first-opinion caseload with a good balance of consultations and a smaller number of operations each day.
Ideally, they are looking for someone with around 2–3 years' experience who is comfortable working independently and confident across general practice.
You should be confident with:
Sole charge
First-opinion consultations
Routine surgery
Non-routine surgical procedures
Dentistry
Managing your own cases and making independent clinical decisions
Building strong, long-term relationships with clients
The caseload predominantly consists of cats, dogs and small furries.
Both full-time and part-time applicants can be considered.
Rota & Work-Life Balance
The practice takes work-life balance seriously and does not expect its vets to routinely stay late or work additional unpaid hours.
The rota includes:
Thursday as your regular day off
At least one evening clinic per week, finishing at 6:30pm
1 in 3 Saturday mornings, finishing at 12:30pm
No OOH
OOH outsourced to another clinic approximately 20 minutes away
Any overtime worked is paid
Proper lunch breaks actively encouraged
Salary & Benefits
The package includes:
£51,000–£68,000 salary DOE for full-time hours
Salary pro-rata for part-time
Overtime and bonuses in addition to basic salary
Five weeks' annual leave plus bank holidays
£2,000 annual CPD allowance for full-time vets, pro-rata for part-time
Certificate study supported and funded where appropriate
Professional fees paid
Company pension
Employee discount
Free parking
The Practice
The clinic has one consulting room alongside its own operating theatre and small hospital.
Facilities and equipment include:
Digital radiography
Digital dental radiography
Ultrasound
In-house laboratory
Vetscan Imagyst
Microscopy
Dental drill
Operating lights
Height-adjustable tables
Oxygen generators
Air conditioning
You'll work alongside two other part-time Veterinary Surgeons, two RVNs and an experienced reception team.
The wider independent group has been established for 30 years and has developed a fantastic reputation for both patient care and looking after its people.
Many members of the team are extremely long-standing, and staff are encouraged to pursue their own clinical interests and professional goals. Vets are given the autonomy to make the decisions they believe are best for their patients, without having to work towards corporate targets.
The practice places a particularly strong emphasis on continuity of care, aiming wherever possible for clients to see the same vet each time. This allows you to genuinely get to know your patients and build long-term relationships with their owners.
Locum First – Try the Practice Before You Commit
If the permanent role sounds appealing but you'd prefer to try the practice before making a long-term commitment, there is a perfect opportunity to do exactly that.
The practice also requires a Locum Veterinary Surgeon from Friday 23rd October through to Monday 2nd November 2026 inclusive, excluding the Saturday mornings.
For candidates considering the permanent position, this locum stint can be used as a trial period.
You'll have the opportunity to work alongside the team, experience the day-to-day running of the clinic, get a feel for the caseload and clients, and decide whether the practice feels like the right long-term home for you.
It also gives the practice the opportunity to work with you before either side commits permanently – making it a great way to establish whether the fit is right for everyone.
Of course, you can also apply directly for the permanent position without completing the locum period.
If you're looking for a genuinely independent coastal practice where you can enjoy being a GP vet, have clinical autonomy, build lasting client relationships and maintain a healthy life outside work, please get in touch for a confidential discussion.
